Building the Growth Function, Not Advising On It
A telematics MGA with a product that worked and no repeatable way to sell it. The brief was not to recommend a growth strategy. It was to build the function that produces growth, and to leave it running.

The Situation
The company had the harder half already solved: a working telematics product, a live book, and a pricing model that reflected how people actually drive. What it did not have was a marketing function. Acquisition was happening, but nobody could say reliably what a policy cost to acquire by channel, which creative was carrying which segment, or what would happen to the number if spend doubled.
That is a common shape in insurtech and it is usually misdiagnosed as a media-buying problem. It is almost always a measurement and operating-cadence problem wearing a media-buying costume.
The Moves
Six months, four workstreams, each with dated deliverables. Acquisition strategy and channel economics first, because nothing downstream can be sequenced until the unit economics are honest. Then brand and positioning, which in a regulated category is as much a compliance exercise as a creative one. Then the content and campaign machinery, built as an agentic system rather than a retainer, so the output continues without a standing agency invoice.
The discipline that mattered most was refusing to optimise channels before the baseline reconciled. Roughly every engagement of this shape finds at least one number the business has been steering by that does not survive contact with source data, and steering harder on a wrong number is worse than not steering.
Where It Stands
The engagement is live, so there are no results to report yet and none are claimed here. What exists already is structural: a marketing function with named owners, a measurement baseline that reconciles to source, and a content engine the team operates without me.
Performance figures will be published when the term completes and the client is content for them to be.
